Two Little Birds       I had a pretty good day on Friday, but it was only good for one reason. I'm sure you will know what I am talking about when you read to the end. Two Little Birds       What a beautiful day today is. Thinly overcast with a warm steady breeze with temperatures in the mid-eighties. What a cure for what ails you. I was sitting in the house, kind of gloomy, not feeling bad or ill in any way. I just seemed to have had my own dark day going on in my own house. I tried turning on the lights because I have heard, and experienced, that that little trick does sometimes help with a case of the doldrums.      Well, unfortunately, it didn’t work for me on this day. What I should have done right then and there, was to pray for God to lift me out of this bog I was sinking in. A Bible and a Casserole      About two years ago I bought a brand new, could still smell the leather, gold embossed study bible.  It is a great study bible with more references than I can read.  It just so happened that I received that bible on Saturday and I spent several hours that day perusing its pages looking at all the maps, indexes, study notes and so on.      On Sunday morning right after Sunday School I approached my pastor, Brother Johnny Witherspoon (a very good teaching pastor) #@cooperfbc.com and holding my brand new bible high, I jokingly pronounced, "Look here Brother Johnny, I've got a brand new bible that even has my name on it.  It's for sure I get into heaven now." Brother Johnny just gave me a smile so slight that I could almost see his mustache move and said, "Yep, Monty, that and a casserole and you are in."       We were both joking and we both understood that.  But as time pass...

Opportunity Missed      A few years ago, there was a young boy that lived in our community just a few blocks from where my wife and I lived.  His family was spread around the country in several states.  The only family he had locally was his mom who frequently left him alone to his own devices for days or weeks, and her current boyfriend who did not hesitate to abuse him when it seemed appropriate.      We got to know the young teen as he would hang around our church on Wednesday evenings for the free meal.  He had several run-ins with law enforcement and the day finally came when our local child probation officer asked us if we would take him into our home and care for him a while.  My wife and I agreed with little hesitation as we had already developed an affection for the young man and were familiar with his situation.      I knew he had not been raised in the church and I wanted to find out a little mor...
