The Wreck

Jim loved her.  She was always there for him.  He could depend on her any time of day or night, she was ready.  Many times, throughout the day she would pop into his mind and he would take just a moment to think about her.  That would always bring a smile to his face, a bit of peace, pride, and accomplishment.

It wasn’t always like that for Jim.  In the early days, Jim had a lot of difficulties with her.  He had to take many breaks from her, just to clear his mind and to figure out what the best path forward would be.

In the evening, after he got home from work, he would often pay her a visit, just to check on her and make sure everything was okay.  She was long and sleek and there were very few just like her.  He always kept her in the garage to prevent weather damage.

The first time he saw her, she looked little better than a rusted-out hulk that used to be a classic automobile.  A crunched fender, missing windshield, ripped upholstery, and an engine that wouldn’t even turn over, let alone start.  But now, she is a masterpiece.  She always started on the first crank and ran as smooth as silk.  He could find not one blemish on her.

He knew in his mind she used to be a wreck; he remembered.  But he could see nothing wrong with her now.  Not one defect or flaw.

That’s how it works with our Heavenly Father.  We were all wrecks of sin and wickedness.  No matter what we have accomplished in our lives or how good or bad our health is, we are all sinners.

20Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” ESV Ecc7:20

But God loved us despite our sin.  He could see something in us we could never imagine existed.  He was willing to spill the blood of His only son so our sins would be covered by that sacrifice.  Now when He looks on us, on those that believe in the free gift of God, He sees the righteousness of Jesus.

He no longer sees our sin because that has been covered by the blood of Jesus on the cross.  We are clothed in the righteousness of His Son.  He knows we sinned; He saw our wickedness.  But no longer.  Not one defect or flaw.

“21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it-22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.”  ESV Rom 3:21-22.

That’s right, if we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we now bear His righteousness instead of being punished into eternity for our sins.

16For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”  ESV  John 3:16

Is there a better promise, anywhere?  I do not think so.  In fact, I know there is not.

    1. You are so right, Terry. There is no greater love. How can we even begin to know the depths of His love, other than looking at what He has done and what He will do.

  2. You are right, Monty, there is no better promise. Even though we are so undeserving, He loves us anyway. He sees the jewel beneath that wrecked exterior and broken heart. Thanks for your uplifting message.
